wanted and office building with cafeteria, meeting rooms,
reception and workstation space.

The brief.
There would be a cultural link between the Kutch
craft industry and the design sensibilities of finland,
becauseThe workforce would be local Kutch people
using finnish technology and concepts. The local color
palette will be infusing the visual elements proportioned
to finnish sense of aesthetics.

Its the balance of these two cultures which will judge
the sucess of the outcome .

Residential Interiors of Shrenik Shah.2000

From shrenik shah's residence

Work on this project completed in 2001, when i was working
with Aakruti Architects.

Client Mr Shrenik Shah, local politician of vapi, Gujarat.India.

The Brief; Speaking visually, the interiors would convey a
feeling of lightness, of floating elements. Modern look with
simple elements and neat defined edges.Everything would
be custom designed down to the last chair.

The color palette would be in the direction of ' warm and
hospitable'pastel colors picked from the natural environment
with a supporting accent color, different for each room.

Scope of design; Living rooms, Dining room, Bedrooms
with walk in wardrobes, in short everything below the ceiling.

This chair in the visual above weighted 3.5 kilos, easily lifted
with one hand is in contrast with the dining table whose
visual center of gravity is way way low.

SURFACE DEVELOPMENT 2004

Words on the process of creation and design.

Edward de bono's words ' there is no one right answer with
regards to any problem. '

The search of the suitable answer starts with doodles which
find a direction of their own. A stage then comes when a
balance is struck between the ' emotional response' the
design is supposed to convey versus the technical abilities-
structural strength, cost, availablity of material- of the design.

The sketch is then frozen and modelled in sketchup and
and tweaked to face hardcore reality. Technical drawings are
then produced and estimation charts are made.

Clients and Designers then co-ordinate to bring into
existance , a doodle.

Debhasa, Pharmaceutical Labs and Offices. 2008

This assignment was 3D visualizatin of a ready made
designed space in Autocad.

Made a presentation with a couple of views of the model.

MUSEUM.SKETCH. 2009

From tradigital sketches
An exercise in tradigital imaging.

The plan derived from the fabonacci series, the spiral. This
personal project was aimed at producing a computer generated
sketch via sketchup, piranesi and photoshop to be used for my
portfolio. Credits to Marcus Venanzoni , whose sketch inspired
this whole idea.

Exhibition Design. JAI Industries. 2007

CLICK SCREEN TO SEE ANIMATION

This was a 4 day exhibition at greens exhibition grounds,
Bangalore. The scale is 22,000 sq ft.

The Brief.
To create a visual ' time machine' for the general woodworking
business people to see the future that wood processing by
machine days are here thanks to the leader of wood
processing machine designers and manifacturers.
JAI INDUSTRIES.

About 80 car sized machines to washing machine sized wood
processing machines were spread around meeting tables , lcd
display screens and certain 'focus points'.

The Design.
The floor is the only personal space in an exhibition hall. this
floor became my canvas. The blue path cut the green-stands
for grass- welcoming inquisitive people right into the middle
of action.

Exhibition Desigh. IITF. Delhi. 2008

CLICK SCREEN TO SEE ANIMATION

Venue: Delhi Pragati Maidaan

The Design Team: Kunjal Panchal. Architect
Dilip Dhankani. Art Director.

The government of Gujarat needs to sell its policies to the
general voting public every year thru a public exhibition
which is held every year as IITF.

This entry won first prize in the competition.
My first attempt at Art Direction.

The plan has 3 bays spread over an area of 7000 sqft.

  • Middle bay - Rural Development.
  • Left bay -Civil works and urban infrastructure.
  • Right bay -Industrial development and infrastructure.

One starts with the middle bay, goes into the left bay and exits
after winding up with the right bay as seen in the Animation.

The visual story is designed to implant a thought in the
audiences mind that ' we together with the gujarat
government have a great future.

Naturopathy Institute. Gujarat. India. 2009

From NATUROPATHY CENTER
Architect M.M Patel required me to do a design presentation
for his proposal on a Naturpathy Institute spread over a rough
green terrain of approx 40,000 sq km. The end user client was
the gujarat government.

The surface of this model follows real terrain dimentions and
landmarks like the temple wall and the river.

The end product presentation needed to look like handrawn
and presented on an elephant sized sheet of paper.

Residential Interiors of Shrenik Shah.2000

From shrenik shah's residence

The idea was to negate the 'enclosure' of the BOXY living room
space.

On a functional level , this ceiling element had to support fans
and lights. The visual language follows the Brief.

Techinical Details : The whole assembly weights about 800kg.
The wood surface is plywood veneered and polished. The lights
are 75 watt halogens, not really heating up the air because
of the shape of the ceiling.

In a nutshell, the design takes the 'false' out of the false ceiling.

Pharmaceutical Lab and Office. Vardodara.Gujarat.2008

This profect consisted of making a presentation and 3D model
of a ready designed space in ACAD.

The large green boxes are fumehoods routinely used in
pharmaceautical laboratries.

The idea was to take point of views strategically to
communicate certain aspects of the design to the client.
Details like the people, pharmacists, wear lab coats,
subtle streaks across the surface of the paper help to
create a sense of shadow play quickly.

Exhibition Design. HITACHI. Delhi. 2004

From hitachi exhibition delhi

Hitachi 'inspires the next' the punchline made me realize
that a good mascot of this exhibition would be
michelangelo.

The first element that an audience would notice , our
mascot engraved into a metal textured wall embedded
into a tower of red. This is the symbolical 'pause' that
grabbed the attention of an onlooker and led him inside
onto the journey of discovering the latest products of
Hitachi air conditioners.

The layout was open planned. People enter and
go-choose from five available directions leading to
5 different products. Simple and effective.

The color palette is Red-Orange in contrast to the
blue floor.

The exhibition was worked out in 2 phases.

  • Designing and prefabrication at Ahmedabad.
  • Assembly at Delhi, site of the Exhibition

Project sucessfully installed in 4 days time.

Architectural Rendering.2009

From tradigital sketches

This is a personal project inspired from like minded artists
spread across the web community.

Most of the time , about 80 percent is used to decide the
'points of focus' , details that i would want the audience
to not miss.

Softwares used. Sketchup, Piranesi and Photoshop.

Furniture Design. 2009

From nikhilbhai's chair
The brief was to design a chair with a 2"x 1/4" metal flat.
and " I need to see wood" Dilip Patel , the architect said.

The idea of a tongue and groove joint visually enlarged and
illustrated thru a chair was the takeoff point of ' a doodle'.

Eventually this has materialized in the chair. The upholstered
black fabric material has grooved inot the wooden bracket-edge.
So have the armrests versus the backrest and seat assembly.

Unlike traditional processes, the model is made first to help
in the deisgn process. Acad drawings follow.

SNEHAL SHAH. GARIMA. india

From garima
This is a photoragraph. True or false ?

This visual is virtual. The trick is to introduce humans
and landscape elements to match the exact coloration
of that point in the image.

This visual was created for Snehal Shah using 3D max.
Making photoreal renders usually is the last stage of a
client approval. It makes sense specially considered
from the point of view of lighting. In this case the
simulated lights have real world specification , called
the IES lights.
They may be any of the below.

  • Flourocents
  • Vapour
  • Metal
  • Halogen
  • or any other type

Corporate Offices Design. Sharpex Industries. 2007

CLICK SCREEN TO SEE ANIMATON

The Brief: To design corporate offices of Sharpex Industries
which would be
  • office cabins
  • workstation space,
  • lunch and relaxation space,
  • display for machines,
  • reception and waiting
these would be spread across 2 floors covering an area
of 4000 sqft.

The design concept.
Sharepex, a manifacture of mostly wood slicing machinary
which give me an idea of floating planes, and so the story
evolves.........the architecture and interiors wouldn't touch
each other-apparently.

The color palate is burnt sienna and ochre with black or
white background. Green on and off.

The Designed Space.
The entrance foyer is watched down by the boss thru a
slit window . He has 180 degree visual access all around
ending in the display area.

The green room, the lunch and relaxation room is partly
open to sky, the floor breaks to allow vegetation and
the vertical wall is perforated to allow breeze making it
a very savoury space.

There is an exterior gallery displaying sharpex tools and
machinary. Flowing and Informal.
